Free Scrivener Themes
for Windows & Mac
I build games and mods. I also write. At some point those two things collided and I ended up with 30 finished Scrivener themes that were too good to sit on a local drive. They’re free, they’re on GitHub, and they don’t require an account to download.
Windows users get .scrtheme files. Mac users get .stheme files. Both formats, same 30 themes, same release. Pick the one for your OS and you’re done.
How it works
Installing on Windows
Download the latest release from GitHub and grab the Windows ZIP. Inside you’ll find .scrtheme files — one per theme. Open Scrivener, go to Tools → Options → Appearance, hit Import and point it at the file. Restart Scrivener if the interface doesn’t update.
Installing on Mac
Same deal, different file. Grab the Mac ZIP from the release page and you’ll find .stheme files. In Scrivener go to Scrivener → Preferences → Appearance, click Import Theme and select the file. Restart if needed.
What’s in the pack
Thirty themes with a game-adjacent aesthetic — nothing too grim, nothing too bright. Built for long sessions where you actually want to look at the screen. Same theme names ship for both Windows and Mac so switching between machines is straightforward.
Notes
Scrivener 3 only
These themes are built for Scrivener 3. They won’t work with Scrivener 1 or 2. If you’re still on an older version, the theme format changed significantly in version 3.
Completely free
No email, no account, no payment. The GitHub release page has a direct ZIP download. Click, download, done. The repo is also public if you want to look at what’s in a theme file or submit your own.
Built by a modder
I make game mods and software in my spare time. The themes came out of wanting Scrivener to feel less like office software. If you use them and something’s broken, the GitHub issues tab is open.
